This Monday (2/8/16) the New Moon will be exact around 9 AM Eastern Standard Time. The low energy felt will be more than the usual Monday blahs as during the time of the New Moon energy levels are generally low.
According to the Sidereal Zodiac, which is the current and real-time map of the solar system, the New Moon conjunction of the Sun and Moon takes place in Capricorn.
As Vedic Astrology is part of the ancient system of the Vedas it stands to reason that the teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda are included in this system’s approach to astrology. The New Moon is considered to be the end and beginning of the monthly lunar cycle. It is a time to let go of the past cycle and set up the energy and goals of the new lunar cycle.
The New Moon is energetically a good time to start new resolutions and goals. It is also a good time to eat lightly and find some down time in order to take advantage of the healing qualities of the New Moon energetics. Pranayama (conscious breathing techniques) and meditation are especially favored on the day of the New Moon as well as the few days before and after the actual conjunction takes place. Meditation and pranayama, in addition to being good for the physical energy, affords us the opportunity to let go of any disappointments or emotional upheavals of the prior cycle.
The qualities of the planets are always influenced by the constellation placement. Capricorn is a sign ruled by Saturn and concerned with practical matters. Due to the Saturn nature of this earth sign discipline is favored by the Capricorn energy. This particular New Moon favors the discipline required for resolutions regarding diets, exercise, practicality with money and/or other impulsive habits. This placement will not, of itself, give you all of the discipline needed but the energtics of this placement can be helpful in fulfilling the goals set. Saturn is the most patient of all planets and can work to offset the discouragement of the slowness of reaching the end result of the goals. The Capricorn energy understands that a pound lost is the first step of success and not a failure because five pounds were not shed in a couple of days.
March is going to be a bit of a wild ride and rather than being dissatisfied with the slow and mundane nature of this particular Capricorn New Moon it is best to relish the quiet and take advantage of the grounding, patient and mundane nature of this particular lunar cycle as that will help with inner balance during next month’s March/Eclipse madness.
